Me : "you've got long legs Jacky"

Jack : "I huge"

At playcentre today Jack and another boy, James, went mad painting. They each had a house painting brush and a pail of water tinted with food colouring and they painted the wooden boat, the slide, the play area and pretty much everything in site. I couldn't lure either of them in for morning tea.

We have been subjected to the ongoing ministrations of Doctor Jack. He has been using his stethoscope to listen to our ears and wearing it around his waist like a cod piece. He was up well before 6 this morning and there was general unhappiness.

Yesterday he cheerily gave Luke's seat in the buggy away to Eleanor "Are you coming in the buggy with me Ele'or"

We got a doctor's kit from the toy library which Jack has been very happy with. He has been busily checking ears, testing reflexes ("gently Jack gently"), calling an ambulance, checking blood pressure and listening to chests.

Richard:  "Doctor Jack doctor Jack, there's an emergency! There's a sandwich that needs eating"

Jack takes a bite.  Round to Richard. Feeding toddlers is tedious, drawn-out and unrewarding

"I'm a big boy - big as a grown up".

Unfortunately he didn't have the even temper of a grown up today so it was a long hard haul with many break-downs and upsets. He had trouble with his syringe, had trouble steering his digger, complained baby brother crying made his ears hurt, didn't want pretty much anything at the time I was prepared to give it to him.

We did have a nice chat about his rattletrap car book. Jack suggested Fireman Sam should rescue the petrol tank that fell off. He said he "need a ladder"
