Misc. Notes
Keith McNaughton remembers that “Uncle Cece” used to come to tea one evening a weeks to 1 Walsh Street, Ormond, staying for the evening to do the books for R. McNaughton and Son Pty Ltd. This was the building company that Sidney McNaughton ran, first in partnership with his father and then as sole proprieter. This memory is probably for the late 1940’s to early 1950s. Uncle Cece was a white-haired gentleman who wore elasticised metal bands round his shirt sleves to hold his cuffs up as he worked. He had nicotine-stained fingers from smoking and a nice copperplate hand in the leger books. Keith thinks he probably worked as a clerk somewhere. Apparently Cecil had been a very fine billiards player, and had known Walter Lindrum well. This may have been a legacy of his upbringing in the Coffee Palace in Wilaura, where they had billiards tables.
