Geoff went to Punt Road Primary School when the family lived in Darling Street. When the family moved to Howith Rd, Caulfield, he went to Caulfield North Central School. During his next three years at Melbourne High School, he was selected for the Under 14 Victorian football team. After taking the Leaving exam in Grade 9, he left school and joined the Victorian Amateur Football Association. At 17 he became the youngest person to be selected for the Victorian Amateur Football team. He played for them from 1933 to 1935. In 1936 he joined the Victorian Football League and played for Melbourne until 1938, serving as the captain of the Melbourne Seconds in 1938. In 1939 and 1940 he played for Prahan in the Victorian Football Association. After injuring his knee twice, he retired from the sport before reaching his peak.

During World War II, Geoff's army service was twice deferred for 6 months because of badly swollen knees before he was called up in 1941to join the infantry. He spent some weeks at the training camp at Puckapunyal but the army decided that he was useless for the infantry since he couldn't even jump. He was sent back to his accounting job.

Geoff married Joyce and their son Ian born while they lived in Bambra Rd. Then Geoff's firm transferred him to Sydney in 1943. Geoff initially lived in a hotel in Sydney (His firm paid for this). When he bought a house at 9 Pearl Ave, Epping Joyce and baby Ian joined him. Geoff and Joyce lived in the same house until 1994, when they moved to a retirement village.

From 1966 he became Company Secretary of Associated Tin Smelters. He continued in this position until his retirement in 1979 after 46 years with the same company. He never held a driving license and never owned a car.
