Sid McNaughton told the family story that Johnny used to have Sunday dinner with his brother James and sister-in-law Maria, until he won Tats (Tattersall's lottery probably) and stopped his visits. Later, when the money was gone, he again arrived on a Sunday, only to be turned away, to be turned away by Maria saying "We were not good enough for you when you had money so we aren't good enough now".
According to his death certificate, he was born in Vicoria and lived there for about 47 years. He spent about 6 years in West Australia. He married - COWAN in West Australia when about 43 years old. They had two children, Robert and Jean, ages unknown. Presbyterian.
