NameSarah TURNER
BirthBoxford, Suffolk
Misc. Notes
Possibly Sar. TURNER, dau of Will. & Sar., christened 13 Dec 1761 in Boxford although this would make her 50 when she married, 13 years older than her husband. Or she could be a granddaughter of this William & Sarah Turner since they could have had a son married elsewhere.
Research
Marriage seen in film of Groton parish records. Both single. Henry from Groton, Sarah from Boxford. Married by license. Witnesses John Smith, possibly attached to the church as witnessed other marriages, and John Ardley. Misc. Notes
Christening on 16 Sep 1774 of NUTTON, Nutton Ayres, son of Hen & Jane, in Boxford - could be same person with mistaken entry in Boxford Parish records

The Bishop's records for Suffolk give Henry's occupation as schoolmaster at the time his son Henry Nutton AYERS was born in Boxford. His son's marriage entry in the records of Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, give his occupation as grocer. Both give his wife's name as Sarah with no maiden surname.

The two daughters may have died young.as C.E.A.W.L. AYERS née FREWER wrote in a letter to her son, A.E.W AYERS, that his grandfather was an only child.

Boxford is in the Archdeaconry of Sudbury. Wills proved in that court
before 1858 are held at the Bury St Edmunds branch of the Suffolk Record
Office. (They have an index to them.) The Archdeaconry of Sudbury covers
roughly the western half of Suffolk. The eastern half comes under the
Archdeaconry of Suffolk. (Records at the Ipswich branch of Suffolk RO). If
a person owned land in both Archdeaconries the will would be proved in the
Consistory Court of Norwich. (Records in Norfolk RO) And the really
wealthy might have their wills proved in the Prerogative Court of
Canterbury! (Records at the Public Record Office). (From Suffolk list)
