The first Incledon to arrive in New Zealand was William Henry Kingdon Incledon. This was about 1876 and he settled in Wellington, the capital. In 1878 he married Matilda Hanson, a widow with five children. Their only offspring was a son born in September 1878, who was also named William Henry Incledon.
William Henry Kingdon Incledon was born illegitimate and Mary Incledon never married his father. Mary did marry William Ayre of South Molton, Devon in 1855 but WHKI never took his name, preferring to remain with his mothers maiden name.
142The baptism of William Henry INCLEDON, son of Mary INCLEDON was recorded in the Heanton Punchardon parish register on 11 Jun 1854. There is no information about Mary’s occupation or the child’s father.
